Understanding culture, help seeking and healing after Gender Based Violence

About the project

Gender Based Violence (GBV) is a serious and pervasive social problem, disproportionately affecting women around the world, regardless of their socioeconomic conditions or ethnicity.

  • Examine the facilitators and barriers to healing and help seeking:
    • Using quantitative data generated with the survey and qualitative data generated by the CENI interview (n=50 per country)
    • Using qualitative data generated by the CENI interview (n=25 per country)
  • Use mixed methods to characterise the country-level help seeking trajectories of women
  • Examine the efficacy of the CENI on healing and help seeking outcomes (symptom reduction, post-traumatic growth, perception of need, help seeking intention, and help seeking behaviour) at 3 months post interview
  • These have implications for service delivery that promotes treatment engagement for women suffering after GBV. This project will produce preliminary data for a larger application

This is a mixed method study with a concurrent data collection and integration. The major outcome measures will be reduced symptoms, increased use of social support, post-traumatic growth, improved perception of need, and help seeking behaviour for a convenience sample of women who have experienced GBV.
