Greenland Representation in Iceland

A presentation by Jacob Isbosethsen, Head of the Greenland Representation in Reykjavik.

Jacob Isbosethsen has since October 2018 been the Head of the Greenland Representation to Iceland in Reykjavik. The Greenland Representation is still under construction and in the beginning fase the objective of the Representation in Iceland is first of all to enhance our political, administrative, cultural and commercial relations with Iceland. But it is also likely that it would like to strengthen the relations with the countries already having a diplomatic presence in Reykjavik.

Prior to his posting in Reykjavik Isbosethsen has had several senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nuuk. Including Head of Department in the Ministry since August 2015. Earlier he was working as Special advisor on legal matters in the Department of Foreign Affairs. From 2017 – 2018, he was also appointed as Acting Deputy-Minister for the Ministry for Independence, Foreign Affairs and Agriculture.

He started his carrier in 2008 in the Ministry of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture and was responsible for legal questions and bilateral fisheries negotiations in the North Atlantic and the EU-Greenland Fisheries Partnership Agreement, and served as secretary for the national fisheries commission.

Mr. Isbosethsen then joined the Government’s diplomatic service in 2011, and has served in the Greenland Representation to the EU in Brussels (2011 – 2013). Here he worked with the EU-Greenland bilateral agreements covering Fisheries protocols, Educational program, living and non-living resources, environmental and climate changes. He was also responsible for the Greenlandic Chairmanship program and agenda with the Overseas Countries and Territories to the EU (2012).

During his entire career, he has served for in the administration in the Government of Greenland.

Jacob Isbosethsen is a lawyer graduate from the University of Aarhus, and he holds an LLM degree in law, 2008. He was born in Nuuk, Greenland in 1981.
