The Nature of Crime Opportunity: Theoretical Foundations and Implications for Policing

Fyrirlestur á félagsvísindatorgi

Dr. Rob T. Guerette prófessor í afbrotafræði við Florida International University mun halda fyrirlesturinn: The Nature of Crime Opportunity - Theoretical Foundations and Implications for Policing á Félagsvísindatorgi. Fyrirlesturinn verður á ensku.

Why does crime go up or down? Conventionally, and to the lay person, a simple answer may be that there are more or fewer offenders committing crimes. Yet, the presence of an offender is only one part of many necessary factors. This presentation will explore those other factors which converge to create crime opportunity within the environment and illustrate how they dictate crime levels. It will explore the theoretical explanations for how environmental opportunities produce crime patterns and what this means for police and policymakers alike.

Dr. Rob T. Guerette er prófessor í afbrotafræði (Criminology & Criminal Justice) við School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Florida International University. Hann er með langan rannsóknarferil að baki en verk hans hafa birst í helstu tímaritum á sviði afbrotafræði. Auk þess hefur hann fengist við ráðgjöf hjá ýmsum bandarískum stofnunum. Loks má nefna að á haustmisseri 2021 var hann sérfræðingur á vegum Fulbright í námsbraut í lögreglufræði við Háskólann á Akureyri.

Fyrirlesturinn verður í streymi.
