Adjunct Lecturer of Community Psychiatry

The University of Akureyri invites applications for a temporary, 49% position of adjunct lecturer in the program of vocational studies for a diploma for licensed practical nurses, with emphasis on teaching in the field of community/social-psychiatric nursing. The University is looking for a candidate with good knowledge in the field.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The position involves overseeing courses in community psychiatry, academic and clinical teaching, and involvement in the program management. The adjunct position is without research responsibilities. The immediate supervisor is the Head of Faculty of Graduate Studies in Health Sciences, of the School of Health, Business and Natural Sciences. The job location is in Akureyri, Iceland. The position is to be filled by September 1, 2023. Employment is temporary for two years.

The University of Akureyri is the only university in Iceland that offers vocational studies for a diploma for licensed practical nurses. The programme consists of 60 ECTS credits, and students are expected to work in their field of expertise during the study period of two years. The position of adjunct lecturer comes with the possibility of participation in development work and the development of future health professions professional training, as well as teaching in community psychiatric nursing, geriatric and home nursing, clinical teaching in the field and in simulation centres.

Qualifications

  • Basic health science education is a requirement.
  • A master's degree useful in practice is a requirement.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience in a healthcare facility and clinical practice activity is required.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in the field of community mental health services is a requirement.
  • Work in community psychiatry along with the adjunct position is a requirement.
  • Experience participating in interdisciplinary teamwork is an advantage.
  • Licensed practical nurses or a diploma for licensed practical nurses is an advantage
  • Experience in university teaching and academic and clinical guidance at the university level is an advantage.
  • Good interoperability, agility in interpersonal relationships as well as good skills in sharing knowledge.
  • Good proficiency in Icelandic and/or English, both spoken and written.

The application shall include:

  • A comprehensive overview of your academic and career paths.
  • Certified copies of diplomas in Icelandic or English.
  • Cover letter outlining the reason for the application and justification for the applicant's competence for the job.
  • At least two referees shall be nominated, one of whom should preferably be the applicant's immediate supervisor in the present or earlier employment.

In evaluating applications, it will be considered to what extent the candidate fulfils the circumstances and needs of the vocational training programme of licensed practical nurses at the University of Akureyri.
