Legal studies are suited to all those who are interested in law, international affairs, politics, business, social issues or the rule of law. Studying law at the University of Akureyri is an excellent option for those who wish to pursue ambitious programmes in a modern learning environment. The University has offered studies leading to a Master’s degree in law since 2003.
The studies
The uniqueness of the undergraduate studies consists in the great emphasis placed on theoretical law, the international part of law, and comparative law. It also consists in a flexible study arrangement.
The University of Akureyri offers a two-year study programme at Master’s degree level which leads to the Magister Legis, ML, degree. This ML degree, taken in continuation of a three-year BA degree programme in Law is equivalent to the conventional five-year Certification Examination in Law (Cand Jur).
At the Master’s level, the University also offers the 90 ECTS LLM and 120 ECTS MA programmes in Polar Law (with or without the West Nordic Studies option) as well as a 60 ECTS programme at Master’s level leading to a Graduate Diploma.
