Exploring AI in Higher Education

Staff Week at the University of Akureyri in collaboration between the university’s continuing education center (Símenntun HA) and International Office
Exploring AI in Higher Education

In October 2025, the University of Akureyri invites staff from higher education institutions across Europe to join a dynamic Staff Week focused on the theme: Exploring AI in Higher Education. This event explores how artificial intelligence is transforming the way we work, teach, and support academic communities.

Artificial Intelligence - Opportunities and Challenges in the Academic Workplace

This year’s Staff Week centers on the practical and strategic implementation of AI in higher education. Participants will engage in discussions, workshops, and peer exchanges exploring real-world applications of AI in course development, digital services, communication, administration, and quality assurance. Ethical considerations, opportunities for automation, and the impact of AI on staff roles will be key topics throughout the program.

The event is designed for staff working in academic support, development, and administration roles – particularly those involved in internationalization, communication, educational technology, and quality management.

International Networking and Innovation in the North

Staff Week is conducted in English and is eligible for Erasmus+ staff mobility funding. Participants will come from a wide range of European institutions, making this an excellent opportunity for professional networking, knowledge sharing, and collaborative innovation.

The program includes interactive sessions, field visits, and social events showcasing the unique culture and natural beauty of North Iceland and providing insight into university life at the edge of the Arctic.
