Students at the University of Akureyri can apply for an Erasmus+ grant to undertake a traineeship or research work at universities, companies, or organisations across Europe.
A traineeship provides a unique opportunity to gain international work experience, enhance professional skills, and build a network that will be valuable in future careers.
Duration of stay
Erasmus+ traineeships offer flexible options in terms of duration:
Long-term mobility
Short-term mobility
- 5–30 days
- Often part of blended mobility (a combination of online learning and a short on-site period)
Doctoral students
Traineeship after graduation
Students may undertake an Erasmus+ traineeship after completing their degree.
Conditions:
- The application must be submitted before graduation
- The traineeship must be completed within 12 months of graduation
- The placement may last for up to 6 months
Where can you go?
Traineeships can take place in all Erasmus+ programme countries.
The placement must be relevant to the student’s field of study and must be approved by the relevant faculty at the University of Akureyri.
Traineeships may take place at:

- cultural and educational institutions

How do I apply?
Once you have secured a traineeship placement:
- Apply for the Erasmus+ grant via Ugla
- Complete a Learning Agreement for Traineeship
- The agreement must be signed by: the student, the host organisation and the relevant faculty at the University of Akureyri
