Article 1
The number of students who obtain the right to study in the spring semester of the 1st year of study in nursing is decided by the University Council annually based on the School’s proposals.
When selecting these students, the following rules are applied:
- Examinations are conducted in all courses taught in the autumn semester of the 1st academic year. Students must take all the exams in the same academic year in which the selection is made. Older exams are inadmissible.
- Examinations are conducted from five courses. They count as follows:
- [Professional nursing I (6 ECTS cred.) 20%
- [Ethics of Health Care]4 (6 ECTS cred.) 20%
- Anatomy I (4 ECTS cred.) 15%
- Practical skills (6 ECTS cred.) 20%
- Cell Biology and history (8 ECTS cred.) 25%]1
- The final grade from each course shall be calculated in whole and half numbers, from 1–10. Those grades are then adjusted to the percentages previously mentioned. The overall grade in the numerus clausus is a weighted average from individual courses and must be given to two decimal places. This grade is used as a basis for ranking students for further studies.
- Examiners shall be appointed according to the rules that apply to them (cf. current regulations on Course Assessment at UNAK) for all exam subjects of the competitive examinations. The final grade in a course is given in whole and half numbers and is the average of the teacher’s grade and the examiner’s grade. The grades of teachers and examiners must be given to one decimal place.
- Once grades have been announced, according to section 3, they are not reviewed further by the [Faculty of Nursing.]2 and 6
- A student who does not show up for an examination due to illness must report their absence before the examination begins. A doctor’s certificate must be submitted to the University’s office at the earliest convenience and no later than five days after the examination was held, otherwise the student is considered to have failed the examination. The same applies to a student who does not show up for an examination due to their child’s illness. If resit examinations are necessary, they must be conducted as soon as possible.
- The students who pass examinations in all subjects of the autumn semester of the 1st academic year are ranked according to decreasing GPA. A student is not considered to have passed an examination unless they receive a minimum grade of 5. If two or more students are tied for last place, both/all of them shall have the right to attend the spring semester of the 1st academic year.
- If the results of examinations indicate that the number of students that the University Council has decided upon does not reach the minimum grade in all courses, the following shall apply: Students who did not achieve the minimum grade in all courses are ranked in descending order of GPA. The student with the highest GPA obtains the first available seat and so forth by decreasing GPA until the indicated number of students is reached. Once this selection has been completed, the University’s general examination rules apply.
- [If the students who have acquired the right to attend the spring semester of the 1st academic year have not confirmed by the end of the first day in January that they will accept their places, the places shall be offered to those with the highest GPA among the previously rejected students, in accordance with items 7 and 8 of Article 1 of these regulations.]7
- Students who are not accepted for studies in the spring semester in accordance with these regulations are not allowed to register for further courses at [the Faculty of Nursing]3 and 8 in that academic year.
- If it is foreseeable before the beginning of the examination period of competitive examinations that fewer students will take the exams than the number that has been determined to acquire the right to study in the spring semester of the first academic year, these rules automatically become void.
- The University Council is authorized in special cases to grant exemptions from these rules.
