Article 1. Role of the University Assembly
- [The University Assembly is a consultation forum, composed of representatives from the University’s Central Administration, the Schools, representatives of University Administration staff, as well as representatives of teachers and students. The University Assembly shall be a forum for the discussion of academic issues within the University of Akureyri, and for the shaping of academic policy.]1
- The University Assembly forms a science and education policy for the University and seeks to aid and strengthen its development.
- The University Council can seek the opinion of the University Assembly on anything which concerns university operations.
- The University Assembly is authorised to issue resolutions on anything concerning the University’s science and education policy, as well as on any other issues which the University Council decides to refer to it specifically.
- The University Assembly expresses its opinion in the form of resolutions; it is a discussion forum and an advisory party on the issues presented before the Assembly.
- The decisions of the University Council or other university institutions which report to it can not be appealed to the University Assembly for a final decision.
- The University Assembly shall be held at least once annually, and the Rector is in charge of the meeting and announces it.
- The Rector must publicise the University Assembly’s resolutions inside the University.

Article 2. Composition of the University Assembly
- The following representatives have a right to a seat in the University Assembly:
- [The Rector, the Deans of Schools, the Managing Dircetor of the University Office, the Director of Quality and Human Resources and Directors of divisions within the University Office, but when unavailable, their deputies.]5
- [The Schools nominate [eight]6 representatives each from the group of permanent lecturers, the spokesman from the Association of Public University Professors working at UNAK will nominate one representative, the Board of the Association of University Teachers in Akureyri will nominate one, University Administration staff will nominate [five]7 representatives and shall all of them, including their deputies, be nominated after voting in the relevant School, among relevant association or among University Administration staff, for two years at a time.]1
- Students will after voting in their union [SHA]2, nominate [seven]8 representatives, and an equal number of deputies, to be seated in a University Assembly for one year at a time, but the University Council may decide that representatives be fewer or more according to law.
- The University Council members may be seated at an Assembly but may not vote.
- The following parties shall tend to the voting of representatives to a University Assembly after notification from the Rector:
- The School Assemblies will tend to the voting of representatives from permanent lecturers.
- The spokesman from the Association of Public University Professors working at UNAK, and the Board of the Association of University Teachers in Akureyri, will tend to the voting of their representatives, and shall every member working at UNAK be eligible, except the ones already seated according to Article 1 or are nominated in section 2 a) above.
- [The Managing Director of the University Office will tend to the voting of representatives from University Administration staff.]3
- The Board of [SHA]4 will tend to the voting of student representatives.
- When tending to representative’s nominations, the Strategy for Gender Equality should be followed.

Article 3. University Assembly Procedures
- A University Assembly meeting should be announced with at least a three-week notice and a draft of the meeting schedule should accompany the invitation.
- If University Assembly representatives want to present proposals for resolutions to the University Assembly, these must, along with a statement, be delivered to the Rector’s Office no later than two weeks before the announced meeting.
- The University Assembly shall generally address and process the following issues [as applicable]1:
- [Presentation by the Rector on the University´s strategy and its achievements]2.
- The issues which the University Council has specifically decided to refer to the University Assembly.
- Proposals for resolutions on specific issues from representatives who are deemed to have a right to a seat in the University Assembly and were delivered to the Rector’s office in the format and inside the time frame stipulated in item 2 above.
- University Assembly representatives can give their opinion on proposals from other parties who work for the University, under the conditions given in item c) above.

Article 4. General Provisions
- The University Assembly sets itself further rules regarding meeting procedures.
- If a disagreement rises on the interpretation of these regulations, the Rector decides in the case; a disagreement on such a decision by the Rector can be appealed to the University Council for a final decision on behalf of the University.
- [These regulations are set by the University Council in accordance with the Act on Public Higher Education Institutions No. 85/2008, with reference to and based on Regulations for the University of Akureyri No. 694/2022, and enter into force immediately.]1
