On 30th September 2022, The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Akureyri awards His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson an honorary doctorate in the field of social sciences.
On the occasion of the conferral of the honorary doctorate, a symposium will be held at the University of Akureyri, entitled “Universities, democracy and Arctic Regions – an alternative worldview”. The symposium will be held on the same day between 10:00 and 15.00 where the President of Iceland, His Excellency Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, and other academics consider and discuss matters of high importance with His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, where the former President has made significant contributions. Following the symposium, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa will be conferred on His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson at a formal ceremony.
