Collaborative Response: Conversation, support and progress

Workshop with Lorna and Kurtis Hewson from Jigsaw Learning in Canada

Kurtis and Lorna Hewson, authors of Collaborative Response, will offer a full-day workshop designed for school leaders in preschools and elementary schools. The workshop is intended for leaders seeking to strengthen collaboration within their schools and ensure continuous support for students, teachers, and other staff in the children's learning environment.

About Collaborative Response

Collaborative Response originated in Canada. Over the past three years, elementary schools in Breiðholt have been implementing this methodology. Evaluation of the implementation highlights that teachers felt CR enhanced teamwork and increased shared responsibility for students. School leaders reported that CR encouraged professional dialogue among teachers and supported the co-construction of knowledge around classroom practices. They also noted how the approach fostered cross-grade collaboration and utilized the professional strengths of the school staff. Importantly, their involvement in implementation enhanced their own student-centered leadership.

Workshop Focus

Participants will explore the core pillars of Collaborative Response. The workshop will include discussion on:

  • How CR supports the adaptation of the learning environment for students.

  • How it strengthens professional learning communities and cultivates a school culture that supports both student learning and teacher practice.
