Evolution of Digital Forensics in Criminal Investigations

On Friday 22nd of February at 12:15, Dr. Cheryl Purdy from Cumberland University and West Kentucky University will give a lunch lecture on the development of digital forensics at the Center for Policy Studies at the University of Akureyri. Dr. Purdy is an experienced digital researcher and currently works at the University of Akureyri as a Fulbright Specialist in Cyber-Security & Critical Infrastructure under a course in police science.

In the last decade, the need for digital forensic services has grown exponentially. In the criminal justice sector, digital evidence plays a significant role in the investigation of many criminal cases. As the need for digital forensics has grown, the tools and techniques have evolved. The presenter, a seasoned digital forensics examiner, will walk you through the historical perspective of acquiring and presenting digital evidence in criminal prosecutions. In addition, some of the changes in the field, and applications with actual court cases and testimony will be highlighted and discussed.
