Public event hosted by the Nordspace project
You are invited to a film screening and panel discussion on Nordic and Arctic space futures at the Reykjavik Art Museum. This is a free event, open to all and organised by the Nordspace project, led by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences with Roskilde University, University of Oslo, Stockholm University, Swedish Defence Research Agency, and University of Akureyri in Iceland.
Following the screening of Aniara - a haunting Nordic meditation on technological hubris and environmental collapse - our panel will explore alternative visions for space infrastructure from the High North. We examine how Arctic and Nordic perspectives might challenge dominant narratives of space colonisation, asking whether space development can avoid reproducing patterns of extraction and alienation that have devastated Earth. Drawing on traditions of collective governance, environmental stewardship, and critical imagination, we consider what sustainable and just space futures might look like from the edge of the inhabitable world.
Panellists will include experts on space politics and futures in science fiction, politics, and art.
The movie will be shown with English subtitles and panel discussion will be held in English.
