Does this always have to be an issue? – The reality of queer students in Icelandic school communities

At the 2026 University Equality Days, ERGI – the Association of LGBT Students in the North, in collaboration with the Equality Council of the University of Akureyri, will host a panel discussion focusing on the experiences, challenges and barriers of LGBT students in school communities and within the education system.

The discussion will focus on visibility, support, accessibility and inclusion at all school levels, as well as the potential opportunities inherent in being LGBT, whether in education, play or work, with a special emphasis on rural areas, smaller communities and the Arctic.

The event will take place both on-site and via streaming.

We encourage people to participate in the discussions. You are welcome to ask questions in Icelandic or English.
