Christmas greetings from the University of Akureyri

Merry Christmas to you all, dear friends!
Christmas greetings from the University of Akureyri

The University of Akureyri thanks you for pleasant co-operation and enjoyable hours spent together during the passing year and we look forward to meeting you in the year to come.

Elín Díanna Gunnarsdóttir, acting rector, writes

This is a time of year when looking back and reviewing the past can be of particular interest and use to us. It is hard to single out the most memorable event of the year, because we have enjoyed so many triumphs and climbed several mountains. Uppermost in our minds, however, is our shared community which has created the University of Akureyri in its current shape and form, characterised by ambitious staff and sought after by students of high ability. Relative growth in the number of applications to study at the University of Akureyri was highest for the forthcoming academic year and we will also take pleasure in recollecting that the University has grown by 60% during the past decade. This growth and expansion, however, has not merely fallen into our laps without effort. Thanks to our highly competent staff and students we have been able to develop a strong, dynamic academic and research community with a personal approach as its guiding light. Thus, the university can be truly described as belonging to all the people of Iceland.

In particular, I wish to thank our students and staff for excellent co-operation and for useful and interesting discussions during the passing year, both as regards tasks involving policy preparation and my role as acting rector during the autumn semester. It is a fact that cannot be taken for granted, but our staff and students care for our university. Our strong community, to which I am proud to belong, is based on solid personal relationships and I wish to express my sincere thanks to you for making a good university even better.

On behalf of the University of Akureyri, I wish students and staff and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
