RHA and the Directorate of Equality collaborate on the development of gender equality indices for the energy sector
University of Akureyri Research Centre (RHA) and the Directorate of Equality have recently entered into a collaboration on the implementation of the project Energising Nordic Equality, which is led by the Directorate of Equality on behalf of Nordic Energy Research.
The aim of the project is to examine the current state of gender equality in the Nordic energy sector. The project seeks to provide managers, business leaders, and educational institutions with practical tools to strengthen gender equality within the energy sector.
The project is carried out by Tryggvi Hallgrímsson, specialist and sociologist at the Directorate of Equality, and Sæunn Gísladóttir, specialist at RHA.
A Gender Equality Index for the energy sector will be developed, based on statistical data, to monitor progress in gender equality across different levels and areas. The index will reflect both participation and experience, and will be designed in such a way that it can be updated over time and demonstrate the impact of various gender equality initiatives.
In addition to analysis, the project aims to increase visibility and awareness of gender equality in the Nordic energy sector. Meetings and workshops will be held to ensure broad participation and stakeholder involvement.
At the conclusion of the project, a report will be delivered containing comparable statistical data, case studies, and a gender equality index for the energy sector. In addition, the project will result in clear policy recommendations.
