Rachael Lorna Johnstone, Professor at the Faculty of Law, Renata Colwell, LLM in Polar Law, and Astrid Nonbo Andersen, Senior Researcher at the Danish Institute for International Justice have just published a new article on the goals of the Greenland Reconciliation Commission. The article, “Gradual Transition: the Greenland Reconciliation Commission in a Legal Context,” considers the original objectives of the Reconciliation Commission which operated from 2013-2017 in light of Greenlanders’ long transition from colonial status to sovereignty. The Greenland Reconciliation is one of a number of similar processes in the Nordic countries but stands out because of the distinct legal status of Greenland and its defined pathway towards statehood.
The article is published in the 17th Yearbook of Polar Law. All articles in the Yearbook can be accessed free of charge through a University of Akureyri account or VPN.
