Polar Law graduate appointed to lead Arctic research institute

Polar Law graduate Romain Chuffart has just been appointed President and Managing Director of the Arctic Institute – Center for Circumpolar Security Studies (TAI), a non-governmental thinktank that informs policy-making in the Arctic.

Romain graduated with an MA in Polar law in 2017, writing his thesis on minority and Indigenous rights. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Durham University’s prestigious DurhamARCTIC programme. His research includes Polar law, international law, the rights of Indigenous Peoples and environmental law. In his doctoral thesis, Romain explores how the international indigenous rights framework is used to articulate emancipatory strategies and to promote Indigenous sovereignty in Arctic environmental governance.

The Faculty of Law of the University of Akureyri wishes Romain the best of luck with this milestone and success in his work.
