Practical Diploma in Icelandic as a Second Language via distance study

The one-year practical program starts on August 21 and teaching takes place four mornings per week, from 8:20 to 9:50, or four afternoons per week, from 16:40 to 18:10, Monday to Thursday.

On-site sessions will be offered three times per semester at the University of Akureyri, the University Centre of the Westfjords or the University of Iceland. Students can choose where they attend these optional sessions.

The general entrance requirements for the Practical Diploma program are a foreign equivalent to the Icelandic matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) and a proof of English proficiency, TOEFL or IELTS (minimum score TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5).

Applicants with an Icelandic personal ID number (kennitala) can apply for the Practical Diploma until June 5 through the communication portal.
