The University of Akureyri welcomed a delegation from Tongji University in Shanghai, China. The delegation consisted of two faculty members and eleven students who visited the university to learn more about its activities and international collaborations in the Arctic.
The visit began with a welcome address by Áslaug Ásgeirsdóttir, Rector of the University of Akureyri. The programme also included presentations by representatives of PAME (Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment), the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), the Stefansson Arctic Institute and the University of Akureyri.
A highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Akureyri and Tongji University. The agreement establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation in education, research and international engagement, including opportunities for student and staff mobility between the two institutions.
The new partnership further strengthens the University of Akureyri’s international network and creates valuable opportunities for students, faculty and researchers at both universities.
