About the project

GRASP (Greenland's Alliance Dilemma Amidst Great Power Struggles – A Comparison with Arctic and Non-Arctic States and Regions) examines the interplay between Greenland's economic ambitions and security interests amid growing great power competition in the Arctic.

The project focuses on the challenges that can arise when economic and security interests do not align, including in Greenland's relations with the United States, Russia and China. It examines the interests and ambitions of Arctic and non-Arctic states from the perspectives of international relations and political economy.

The project also compares Greenland's position with that of the Åland Islands, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. Through this comparison, it aims to identify similar challenges and draw lessons that may be relevant to Greenland's international relations and development.

The project is led by Nasiffik – Centre for Foreign & Security Policy at Ilisimatusarfik/University of Greenland.
