Article 1. Role and responsibilities of the Quality Council

The Quality Council is a standing committee of the University Council, [and these Rules governing the activities of the Quality Council are adopted pursuant to Article 6 of the Rules for the University of Akureyri No. 694/2022.]² The Quality Council is responsible for the implementation of the University's quality system. [The Rector has ultimate responsibility for the University's quality system, while its day-to-day operation is overseen by the Quality Manager, who also serves as its principal representative.]¹ The Rector shall issue a job description for the Quality Manager.

Article 2. Composition of the Quality Council

[The Quality Council shall comprise the Quality Manager, who shall chair the Council, two representatives from each School, two representatives of administration and support services nominated by the Rector]³ and two student representatives nominated by the [Student Association of the University of Akureyri.]² Alternate representatives of students and staff shall also be nominated, and the nominated representatives shall serve on the Quality Council for a term of two years.

[The Quality Council shall allocate responsibilities among its members.]¹ [The Project Manager for Quality and Human Resources shall serve as secretary and staff member of the Quality Council and shall attend meetings of the Council with the right to speak and submit proposals.]⁴

Article 3. Procedures and responsibilities of the Quality Council

The Quality Council shall normally be convened once a month. The responsibilities of the Quality Council are:

  1. to ensure that the University at all times meets the external quality requirements applicable to its activities;
  2. to promote interest in quality matters within the University;
  3. to serve as a forum for discussion and decision-making on quality matters concerning the University;
  4. to promote improvement and development in teaching and assessment within the University;
  5. to approve, monitor and ensure the regular review of study programmes and degrees;
  6. to monitor the quality of research within the University and, in cooperation with its Research Council, develop criteria and scales used to evaluate academic research activities at the University of Akureyri;
  7. to collect, evaluate and respond to information concerning the University's activities as it relates to quality;
  8. to take a position on significant changes to the University's activities that may affect the quality of those activities;
  9. to address the preparation and implementation of the University's self-evaluation and external evaluation and ensure appropriate follow-up.

Article 4. General provisions

These Rules are adopted by the University Council pursuant to [Article 6 of the Rules for the University of Akureyri No. 694/2022]¹ and shall enter into force immediately.
