Law Forum: Ragnheiður Elfa Þorsteinsdóttir, lecturer and PhD student at the Faculty of Law, University of Iceland.

In her presentation, Ragnheiður Elfa will discuss development of permanent sovereignty over natural resources and its scope. Discussion on permanent sovereignty over natural resources began within the UN in th 50s and were quite extensive over the next 20 years or so. The need to limit sovereignty over natural resources to tackle global environmental problems are quite high on the Agenda in the academic debate and will be addressed. Ragnheiður Elfa is a PhD student at the University of Iceland, Faculty of law and a lecturer at the University of Akureyri, faculty of law. Ragnheiður holds an law degree from the University of Iceland and an LL.M degree from the University of Edinburgh where she studied international law and human rights. The main subject of her thesis is incoroporation of a provision on natural resources in the Constitution of Iceland.
