At the Law Forum the possible continuation of accession negotiations with the EU will bediscussed. On the one hand, the accession process itself will be discussed, and on the otherhand, the possibilities for exemptions from certain aspects of the Union’s activities or for specificsolutions due to important interests of the candidate country.
Law Forum with Dr. jur. Davíð Þór Björgvinsson, professor and dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Akureyri (HA), Ragnheiður Elfa Þorsteinsdóttir, lecturer in European law at the Faculty of Law at HA, and Dr. Gunnar Þór Pétursson, professor of European law at the Faculty of Law at Reykjavík University (HR).
The occasion is that a parliamentary resolution proposal has been submitted to hold a referendum on August 29 2026. European affairs are therefore firmly on the agenda, and it is an excellent opportunity to discuss them in an informative manner within the framework of the Faculty of Law at the University of Akureyri. Such a discussion provides every voter who is interested in familiarising themselves with the issue with the best possible conditions available in a democratic society to make an informed and well-considered decision.
