Sjónaukinn, the annual conference of the School of Health, Business and Natural Sciences at the University of Akureyri, will be held at the University of Akureyri on May 19th – 20th 2026.
The theme of this year’s conference is Lessons learned, Solutions and the Way Forward.

The aims of the conference is to:

  • Shed light on the changes and progress that have taken place in recent decades in knowledge, teaching, and solutions within the health sciences and work in the healthcare sector.
  • Create a platform for discussion and encourage further development and innovation within the health sciences.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are now being accepted for Sjónaukinn 2026.

The conference is the annual conference of the School of Health, Business and Natural Sciences at the University of Akureyri.

Interested academics, professionals, and other experts in the field of health sciences and related disciplines are welcome to submit abstracts.

The deadline for abstract submission is April 8th 2026.

Programme

The programme features prominent keynote speakers who each bring their own perspectives on what once was, the solutions available today, and the direction we can take together to find the way forward.

Keynote speakers will be announced soon.

Presentations from a wide range of fields within healthcare services will contribute to the diverse programme:

  • On the first day, keynote presentations will take place along with a variety of engaging presentations, all addressing the theme of the conference. There should be something of interest for everyone.
  • The second day of Sjónaukinn will feature keynote speakers and a diverse selection of project presentations, where master’s students present their master’s projects in health sciences.

Registration

  • There is no conference fee, and all are welcome.
  • Participants cover their own travel, accommodation, and meals.
  • It is important that participants register for the conference.
