Operational personnel, such as soldiers, police, ambulance workers and firefighters, are at risk for experiencing critical incidents with potential psychological consequences. Care for operational personnel in the aftermath of such incidents is a major task for employers. The lecture will present principles for personnel care as practiced in the Norwegian Navy, exemplified with the accident with Norwegian frigate HNoMS Helge Ingstad.

Sverre Sanden is a clinical psychologist employed by the Norwegian Navy and Phd-candidate at Centre for Crisis Psychology at the University of Bergen, Norway. He has extensive experience in supporting operational personnel in international operations, personnel care after critical incidents and personnel selection for operational units.
