There are many studies on attitudes of people towards AI. But there are hardly any studies that focus on the question of how employees imagine AI in their workplace. The lecture presents central results of a representative survey with 2,000 employees in Germany. A methodological innovation of the Q-method was also used. A central result is that employees evaluate AI primarily from the perspective of their work and tasks; general attitudes toward technology or technical change play a lesser role.

Sabine Pfeiffer

Sabine Pfeiffer is professor for Sociology (Technology – Labour – Society), Faculty of Philosophy and Theology, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg since 2018. Previous positions include: University Professor for Sociology, Faculty of Economics, University of Hohenheim (2014–2017); Professor for Innovation and Creative Development, University of Applied Sciences Munich (2010–2014); Senior Researcher at Institute for Social Science Research (ISF Munich; 2000–2010). Before she worked for around 10 years in manufacturing and automotive industry as a toolmaker and technician. Her main research areas are digital capitalism, technological change and work, food insecurity, VET system, and methods innovation in mixed and participatory methods. Beside others Sabine Pfeiffer is a member of the R&D board of the German Platform “Industrie 4.0”; fellow of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB); spokeswoman of the DFG Priority Program 2267 “Digitalization of Working Worlds”; member of the Council of Working World of the Federal Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs.
